CONCERT SEASON SOLOISTS AND GUEST CONDUCTORS

Stephen Campitelli’s passionate and precise musicality has made him a renowned local artist of remarkable versatility. In demand as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and accompanist, he has regularly appeared with the Immaculata Symphony since 1997 as soloist, chamber musician and resident pianist. He has premiered recent solo piano compositions by Roman Pawlowski and Joseph Nocella. He has served as rehearsal accompanist and concert organist for the Main Line Ecumenical Choir since 2000. He recently performed the Beethoven Choral Fantasy with the Main Line Symphony. Mr. Campitelli is the organist at the West Chester United Methodist Church and can be heard in weekly church service broadcasts on WCHE-AM. He is a past first prize winner for Pennsylvania in the National Music Teachers Association’s Collegiate Artist Competition. He is a faculty member at Immaculata University and Suburban Music School and maintains a private piano studio.
Alice Quirk, a junior at Immaculata University, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, with a concentration in viola performance. A native of Havertown, PA, she is a graduate of Haverford Senior High School. Alice is a student of Ardeth Belzer, the highly respected viola teacher. She is also an active vocal performer. Throughout her musical career, Alice has enjoyed many unique opportunities, including her participation in the 2005 All-Eastern Honors Orchestra, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, and the 2007 Jazz Honors Choir. Alice also excels academically. At Immaculata, she is as a member of the Honors Program and was recently inducted into the Immaculata University Honor Society. She is the principal violist of the Immaculata Symphony and is honored to perform as a soloist with the orchestra
Christine D’Amico DeVault, a native of Philadelphia, is a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music, Temple University College of Music, and the University of the Arts completing both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Vocal Performance and Opera. Christine has performed extensively throughout the Philadelphia area in opera, oratorio and recital. She has been a soloist with the Philadelphia Singers, the Choral Arts Society, Pennsylvania Pro Musica as well as numerous other choral groups. Highlights of past recital performances include concerts on WHYY-FM, the Tri-County Concert Artists recital series, The National Convention for the Presbyterian Lay Committee at Grove City College and Cabrini College Concert Series. Christine maintains an active teaching schedule at Eastern University in St. David’s, PA and at Immaculata University in addition to her private teaching at home. She is presently the soprano soloist at the First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore where she has been singing with her husband, Jeffrey DeVault, baritone, for the past 17 years.
Conductor Ovidiu Marinescu, one of the outstanding musicians of his native Romania, combines a precise technique with great musical inspiration. He is the Director
of the West Chester University Symphony, which under his leadership made a sold out debut at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and embarked on its first European tour. He has also served as the conductor of regional orchestras in Delaware and New Jersey, and principal conductor of the Goppisberg Festival Orchestra in Switzerland. His guest conducting includes appearances in Romania, Spain and the Czech Republic. Known for his powerful interpretations of orchestral works by Russian composers, Marinescu was invited to record Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Marche Slave with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra in Moscow followed by regular appearances as a guest conductor.
Equally outstanding as a cellist, Ovidiu Marinescu was chosen to play at Carnegie Hall for Romanian President Constantinescu, and has performed with the New York Chamber Symphony, the National Radio Orchestra of Romania, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. This season Marinescu performs the Elgar concerto with the Helena Symphony and the National Radio Orchestra of Romania.
Dr. Vallo is Professor of Music and the Chair of the Department of Music at Immaculata University, where he is also the Music Director/Conductor of the Immaculata University Wind Ensemble. Prior to coming to Immaculata University in 2004, Dr. Vallo was at Anderson College, where he was the Coordinator of Music Education, Director of Instrumental Activities, and the Music Director/Conductor of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Vallo also taught at Jacksonville State University (AL) where he conducted the JSU Chamber Orchestra as well as the Alabama Youth Symphony. Dr. Vallo holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Syracuse University with performance honors in trumpet, a Master of Music in Musicology from George Washington University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education with an emphasis in instrumental conducting from the University of Florida.
