Celebrate the distinctive sound of American orchestral music with a program showcasing two powerful symphonic voices. Leonard Bernstein’s sparkling Overture to Candide opens the concert with wit and energy, followed by his deeply moving Symphony No. 1, “Jeremiah,” featuring mezzo-soprano Chelsea Croke. The concert concludes with Howard Hanson’s sweeping Symphony No. 2, “Romantic,” a lush and passionate masterpiece that captures the grandeur and spirit of the American symphonic tradition.
